A NEW APPROACH TO AMERICA’S GUN VIOLENCE EPIDEMIC
Nearly 40,000 Americans die from gun violence every year. It is a public health crisis that requires bold, new solutions. Graphic warning labels have already been effective at educating people about the health risks of smoking. We believe they could be used to educate Americans about the health risks of guns.
IT’S TIME TO RETHINK HOW WE REMEMBER VICTIMS
Despite epidemic levels of gun violence in this country, the media never shows us what guns do to thousands of people every year. This has left us numb to the statistics and detached from the consequences of gun violence. But if we are to prevent it from happening, the first thing we have to do is face what it really looks like.
Bullets destroy bodies. Even those who survive suffer life-changing injuries. It's time to face the gruesome reality of America's gun violence crisis, and putting graphic labels on ammunition boxes makes it impossible to ignore.
OWNING A GUN IS YOUR RIGHT. KNOWING THE FACTS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
All gun owners have a responsibility to know the risk to their health and the health of their friends, family and loved ones. Graphic ammunition warnings respect the right to own a gun while ensuring owners know the dangers.
This campaign was inspired by the graphic warning labels on tobacco around the world. The World Health Organisation calls the labels “the most cost-effective tool for educating smokers and non-smokers...about the health risks of tobacco use.”
We believe the same approach could work to educate gun owners about the dangers associated with gun ownership.
We believe this idea is worth more research. You can help us achieve this by sharing the campaign with your representative in Congress. Simply enter your zip code, find your rep and choose a pre-written Tweet to send.
